Jessica is a fellow Valley Center, Kansas "Fightin' Hornet" and she and
husband Wade traveled from Wichita to visit friends in Dallas, and have a
photo session. It was a joy to meet them and our visit reminded me of a
little of what I love about the people in my hometown. :) She is witty and sharp and if you click the word, you can see her blog!

What does beauty mean to you? To me beauty is happiness and originality. When I see someone joyfully marching to
the beat of their own drum, I think that is beautiful.
On a superficial level, I think old Hollywood movie stars
are beautiful. I love reading
about the metamorphosis average girls underwent at the old studios to become
movie stars. My favorites are
Carole Lombard, Jean Harlow, and Elizabeth Taylor.

When do you feel most “comfortable in your skin?” Being comfortable in my own skin is
something I have struggled with my entire life. I am now 34, and I think I am the closest I have ever been
to truly achieving this. I feel
most comfortable when I am laughing.
Like that kind of laughter that makes your face hurt and people look at
you strangely. I love that
feeling.
I also feel most comfortable when I am out in nature. I live in downtown Wichita, so I make
it a point to drive somewhere in order to fill my eyes with trees and animals as
often as possible.
What do you like most about being a woman?
I kind of enjoy being
underestimated. It’s
challenging to be a woman, but I delight in proving the people that
underestimate me wrong.
Tell me your story…
I was born and raised (well not born exactly because it’s
too small for a hospital) in Valley Center, Kansas. I have lived in the Wichita area my entire life. I currently live in Old Town with my
husband Wade and my pug Henry. I
have a blog that I occasionally update called ‘It’s Jess!’.
I spend my free time playing with makeup, and daydreaming about owning
10 pugs. Someday I want to publish
a novel about my time spent working as a legal courier and process server.
What do you think was the biggest turning point in your
life?
I guess one of the most defining times in my life came after
what I like to call my ‘country western’ year. I had a pretty rough year about 5 years ago, and after that
I decided it was time to make some serious changes. Over the past 5 years I have lost and maintained a weight
loss of over 100 lbs. It was
unbelievably difficult to do, but I am very proud of myself for starting. But it wasn’t just working on
losing the weight that I am proud of accomplishing, I also spent a lot of time working on myself, and learning
to really love and appreciate myself.
Please finish the statement. I am the person who…
Can be counted on to say something inappropriate.
My current goal is to work on coming out of my shell. My word of the year for 2016 is ‘hatch’. I’m hoping to write more and just put
myself out there more.
