Lancaster Family

Mornings... how do you feel about them?

I'm not a fan, but if I can sleep until 7:00 I'm usually OK.  Every Thursday morning my husband, who of course, IS a morning person, goes to a Men's Bible Study at the Lancaster's home.  Carol Lancaster has arisen ugly-early to prepare breakfast for all these men to come study the Bible with her husband.  I think they get there at 5:30 or 6:00.  I honestly can't tell you because I'm never awake when he leaves.

This family makes me want to be a better person.  When their middle son was tipped $100 for navigating a sailing and fishing trip, he gave it all the missionary staying with them. Their daughter is in India right now working to get children out of slavery and prostitution.  Inspiring, isn't it?

They are also responsible for a photo that always... always elicits a laugh from me. Here's the deal: Carol would say "yippee" (yes, it is Texas) every time I asked them to kiss and yes, the kids would then roll their eyes, so we decided to just let that play out in full.  Here is the result:

Katherine's Bridals

High School sweethearts...

I asked for pictures of them growing up to make a slideshow for their wedding.  When it was done, I was crying.  Halloween costumes, football games, proms, trips to the zoo, Thanksgiving dinner with the family, a Christmas engagement.  Two lives blending and I get to be a little part of it.

Katherine is darling... and calm... and easy and sweet.  She spoiled me.  We did her bridal pictures inside for awhile and then ventured into the heat.  My daughter was helping me and spotted a white 1949 Chevy for sale.  On our way home we stopped and asked the owner  if we could take some photos in it.  His dog played along.  Drivers were honking as they passed, at the beautiful bride posing in the old white Chevy.  Every time I pass that spot I tell that story, if not to the people in the car, at least in my mind.  The memory of a beautiful bride in white posing with a coke and a dog in a vintage Chevrolet and the shared experience of those who passed by calling out and honking.  (Smile)

Vintage Train Engagement

Have you ever come across a picture that you couldn't get out of your head?  One day I saw a photo that looked like a soldier had come home from WW II to meet his sweetheart at the train station.  The power of  love and reunion, and documenting that moment for their grandchildren just haunted me.  I wanted to style a shoot like that and I knew the couple...

Anna-Marie is a "throw back."  When she was 16 she was singing old jazz standards like "Come Rain or Come Shine."  She named her bright blue PT Cruiser "Billie" for songbird Billie Holiday.  She had Film Noir photo sessions in black and white with a satin gown.  A sentimental soul, she sees herself and her love as the couple in the movie "Up" (without the sad parts, of course).  For their first Christmas together he gave her an "Adventure" Book with their pictures together in sepia and a message that read "We will finish the adventure together..."

She wore her grandma's dress and he wore her grandpa's Army jacket.  They got the rest of the uniform from Colonol Bubbies Army Surplus Store in Galveston.  Anna-Marie wants to continue this 1940s/50s theme by having her bridesmaids wear vintage hats and gloves and the groomsmen wear suspenders and hats for their outdoor wedding.  She has also started scouring Craigslist, Ebay, and Etsy for the table decorations and antique dishes she plans to use for the reception.  She chose the messages and the font to write on the photos and plans to use them for her "Save the Dates."

Two scenarios:
First:  Leaving a sweetheart to go off to war.

And now for the second scenario of him coming safely home:

They met in high school on the stage where they were in an Elvis Presley musical called "All Shook Up" so that stage is where he proposed.

Here is a slideshow of photos of them leading up to and including their engagement... It is to the "Married Life" song from the movie "Up" which is what he had playing when his scavenger Easter Egg hunt led her to him on bended knee with a ring...
