L.D. Bell graduate - Dallas Senior Photographer Lisa McNiel

Paul was pleasant and cooperative, even though he and his dad had arrived at the location early and had to wait. That was his vibe, cool, calm, collected - focused on the task at hand, but still could enjoy the moment and make a memory with his dad.

But then we arrived at the lake.

All bets were off.

There was a boat on the lake playing easy tunes that reminded you of Saturday nights with your best friends after skiing all day. The sun was beginning to set and you could feel that it was a special moment, one you wanted to hold onto in your head so you could pull it up in the cold of Winter, in the wake of Dallas traffic and the frustrations of I-35, in the stress of finals, perhaps even when you were too old for water sports.

He stopped and looked around. I tried to pose him, but he was respectfully distracted with a smile on his face. He wasn't on his phone. He wasn't thinking about what he would be doing later, or the newest video game. He was completely in the moment, in nature, in communion, smiling at the scene, the lake, the boat, his dad. I wanted to know what was in his head, but my youngest child and my husband have that same connection with nature. It centers them. It calms them. It is a gift they treasure.

Eventually, we did get our lake photos and then just lingered there for a bit until we talked about what restaurant they should eat at before they headed back as they had travelled to get there. When I asked what kind of food they liked, they said, simultaneously, Italian. Maybe I should have guessed that with the last name of Rizzo, they would know authentic Italian food. I sent them to Grimaldis and hoped for the best.

Paul brought a suit with a great tie and shoes, a blue shirt over a white T-shirt and his favorite black converse shoes so he pulled off the business man look as well as the James Dean look.

Senior Pictures with Your Dog - by Dallas Photographer Lisa McNiel

Following my seniors on Instagram gives me a sense of how to do their session and helps us get in the "groove" more quickly. Annabelle had photos from the "Grass Bash" at Marcus, prom, concerts, her group of friends, and birthday shoutouts, and then this cheerful, bubbly girl also had a post with a sunset that read, "This week my church and I traveled to New Mexico to help the community of Dulce by doing various laborious jobs, but the people we met gave 100% back to us through generously providing meals, a place to stay, and sharing their stories and culture. I saw Christ so much this week in the people of the Jicarilla Apache Nation and of course my amazing friends of St.Phillip's!" And this made me feel like I got to know her heart a little better.

We had a quick session, but it was filled with doggy love and beautiful light.

Since then she went to Europe and I had to click through all her photos on Instagram! She was posting pictures of the "Bubble Lady" in Berlin, and an enormous yellow Burmese python wrapped around her and her best friend as they traveled Europe together, then mugging with white birds, and photos of ancient architecture.  She took selfies with local artists and overlooking beautiful Budapest.

From Prague, pictures of elegant meals, locks on gates, statues, canals by homes, beautiful sculptures, toasting glasses, and local musicians filled her Instagram feed with a description of her day... waking in Berlin, touring in Dresden and ending up in Prague. Her tour guides surprised the group by taking them to the John Lennon peace+love wall and brought spray paint cans. What a day!!!

And then she was back home having fun with a friend in front of a graffiti wall near the Denton County Courthouse, making the mundane an adventure!

Senior Pictures - Marcus Boy - by Flower Mound Photographer Lisa McNiel

"Marcus golfer, funny, witty, fun to be with, a pleasure to photograph, felt like I had known him a long time, easy laugh." Those were the notes I wrote to myself after my senior session in Grapevine with Marcus Senior Gavin Stone.

These were the notes his mom sent me when I asked her to give me her perspective:
Played golf throughout high school.
Great sense of humor.
Kind of goofy, but likes to be that way.
LOVES the outdoors. Camping, hunting, mountain biking, the lake, snow boarding, etc.
Loves country music.
Wants to be a pilot.
Oldest of three (two younger sisters)

You may be a casual dresser, but a suit will be great for your senior pictures and you'll be able to use it for so many events in the future. It will be a life-saver for that last minute wedding, funeral, banquet, or formal. It really makes sense to get a suit for prom instead of renting a tux.

If you already have your cap and gown, bring them if you would like to include them in your photos. I like a more informal take on it as seen above.

This is an example of his sense of humor. His "About Me" quote on Twitter is: "If I could live in any generation it would be the 90's. Nothing good came out of the 90's so I would fit right in."

Remind me to get some pictures of you and your mama! You're both going to want them in the future!

Red-haired Softball Billy Ryan Senior headed to UT to play Softball by Senior Photographer Lisa McNiel

Jaden Hoelker just graduated from Billy Ryan high school in Denton, Texas. She's headed to play softball at the University of Texas in Austin. She qualified for the difficult application process at UT Austin both as a softball player, but also as valedictorian of her class.

Her favorite songs are:
Praise You in This Storm
God of this City
Jordan Belfort
Fire & Desire

Her favorite feature is her red hair, and her favorite personality trait is how loud and fun she can be. I want to thank Emily Gentry for referring me to her.

In school, she's involved in: Softball, National Honor Society, National English Honor Society,  EHS, NFHS, and the math honor society - Mu Alpha Theta.

In her free time she likes to read or run. Her favorite quote is "You will be exactly as happy as you decide to be," and her favorite memory is a big family gathering at her grandma's house for Thanksgiving two years ago.

We did her Senior Portraits in various places in Denton and used the sun and the orange in her UT shirt to highlight her red hair. These were actually taken hours after pictures were being snapped of her at Signing Day at her high school.

She included softball and glove, her red commencement gown, (but we left out the graduation mortarboard), her Bible, my grandpa's suitcase, and American flag.

In addition to her college T shirt with denim skirt and cowboy boots, she chose a white graduation dress with funky wedges, a black floral boho top with stripes on the sleeves, which was great in the wind.

Remember to plan ahead when deciding to schedule Senior Pictures. I book up quickly and procrastination will be your enemy when trying to book with a busy photographer. Best wishes to the class of 2019 and beyond for a great Senior Year!!!

Guyer High School Senior Pictures by Flower Mound Photographer Lisa McNiel

Macy has such a Cheryl Tiegs look that I felt like I was being transported back to the 1970s! She's a Denton Guyer grad  who is headed to college in the Fall. She played volleyball from the 3rd grad to the 11th grade and has been working at the The Home Depot in Flower Mound for two years.

The youngest of five children (yes... 5), she has plenty of older siblings looking out for her. She enjoys spending time with her big family, her boyfriend, who made an appearance for her photo session, and of course, her friends!

Her favorite shows are "Friends," "How I Met Your Mother" and "That 70's Show," and her music playlist runs with a Country vibe:
19 You Me by Dan Shay
Time Is Love by Josh Turner
When It Rains It Pours by Luke Combs
Broken Halos by Chris Stapleton
A Change of Heart by The 1975
1985 by Bowling for Soup
Spirit In The Sky - Norman Greenbaum

Macey's favorite memory is riding the bumper cars and spinner with her 77-year-old Granny, and also swimming and making Fairy Dust with friends when they were little. It seems like an idyllic childhood!

Cross Country Senior Pictures by DFW Photographer Lisa McNiel

This is what Will's mom, Nina had to say about him, "Will is a very positive and kind young man. He is super easy going and a natural leader. Will was the captain of the Cross Country team at Marcus this year and really took a lot of pride in helping out the younger boys on the team. We always say that Will was born on a sunny day. He wakes up singing and it's pretty hard to ruffle his feathers."

My observation is that his good nature seems to be born of an intelligence, an emotional awareness, and maturity more than a desire to please or extroversion. I'm honored to have been chosen to photograph Will's senior pictures, and believe that life after high school graduation will have wonderful things in store for him.
