Sweet memory from Flower Mound Marcus graduate Hayden Self's mom:
This story paints a perfect picture of my Hayden. Hayden was 5 years old and on the Highland Shores Swim Team. We were at the end of season All-Stars District Swim Meet at the Loos Natatorium in Addison. This is a huge venue and they have very large and deep swimming pools. Hayden was in a relay race and we were very nervous to see our little 5-year-old boy swimming in such a deep and large pool. We were in the stands and weren’t allowed down near the pool. We anxiously watched him dive in after his teammate touched the wall. We saw him dive in but for what seemed liked minutes didn’t see him come up. We couldn’t figure out where he could be. Finally, he came up and had someone’s goggles in his hand and handed them to a young boy on the side of the pool and then finished his leg of the race. He dove down probably 15 feet+ to the bottom to retrieve the goggles. We were relieved to see he was okay and so proud to see that he had put someone else’s needs above his own. What was even better is that he swam so fast that he still beat the other swimmers even taking the goggle detour. That’s my boy Hayden! He always gives 110% no matter what he does whether it is school, sports or just helping around the house and always puts others above himself. Our last name Self is very fitting for our Selfless young man!
